Is Digital or online Evangelism effective?

Beloved Reader, as Christians we can devise different means to reach out to the lost with the gospel, but the message of the cross must not be altered, it should remain the same. In this 21st century, technology is advancing at a faster rate and a lot of people spends hours on various social media platforms and we can easily preach the gospel to them using those platforms. Technology has come to stay and am glad the church is already using it as a tool to evangelize the world. 

Digital Evangelism is effective 

According to sources it says "Between 2010 and 2014, some of the world’s largest evangelistic organizations, including the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and Global Media Outreach (GMO), began shifting their focus and resources from live audiences to online evangelism. As a result, these ministries claim to be making a greater impact around the world than ever before, with the most considerable advantage being the ability to “engage people’s hearts anytime, anywhere” (Zylstra, S. E., “Evangelism: Do Digital Decisions Disciple?” Christianity Today International, 2015, p. 17)".

Many people are online today like never before, therefore it is imperative we use our digital resources in our evangelistic endeavors. A short video on tiktok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X or a short blog post on Christ crucified has the potential to win countless souls for Christ. There are a lot of testimonies of how many lives have been touched, souls have been won for Christ via online posts.

So you see, digital evangelism is effective in the sense that we can preach the gospel and many people can get access to  to our message. As the world is advancing technologically, we must also be well abreast with the latest trends, so we can utilize it in preaching the gospel. The gospel of salvation remains the same, but the means of conveying the message to the unsaved is subject to change.

The Early Church

The early disciples of Christ themselves employed various modus operandi in preaching the gospel to the lost. The early disciples preached the gospel one on one, on the streets, from house to house, in the jail, to a large audience, in the synagogue, and they wrote down Christ centered scriptures (Acts 1:1,  2, 8, 13, 16, 2 Thessalonians 3; 14, John 21: 24-25, James 1:1). 

The early apostles and disciples of Christ used every means possible to get the gospel of the death and bodily resurrection of Christ Jesus to as many people as possible. Their message was in its pristine state but the method of preaching the message varied. 

Fellowship in a Local church is still key

When a soul is won via online, the spiritual growth of the person is important and it is in the local church that they can be taught the word of God. Left to themselves they will not grow, they will remain babes in Christ, but the local church provides a platform for their spiritual edification through faithful teaching of the holy scriptures. 

And also the local church provides a place of fellowship and mentorship. The converted soul must be able to connect physically with other brethren in the faith, and to establish relationships. Digital platform cannot do this for a person who has been saved through online message. The penitent soul will be mentored by mature believers as they seek to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You have no excuse 

No Christian has an excuse not to preach the gospel, if you are not able to share the gospel face to face, you can take advantage of the various social media platforms to reach out to the lost. But notwithstanding, you need to master the courage of preaching the gospel face to face as well. You need to take up your cross and begin to preach the gospel using every means possible, so that others can also partake of the blessing that comes with believing in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. I beseech you to labor assiduously by using every means whether in-person or via online to share the good news about the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ whiles you remain in this earthly tabernacle (flesh) for the glory of God. What is the purpose of the church?

Beloved in Christ, the biblical meaning of church is an assembly of believers. The Greek word, "Ekklesia" means, ''the called out ones or a Christian community''. Christians are the very people God has chosen and called them out unto himself. The church constitute Christ hand, his eyes, his mouth, his legs, etc. We are the body of Christ and individual members of it, see (1 Corinthians 12; 27).
